Welcome! Rich and Kathie here, and we are working toward our retirement in a few years! Last year we purchased 30 acres of forest in the beautiful Adirondack Park of New York State. We are currently working on plans to build an earth-sheltered home that will be low maintenance and have low energy needs (Perfect for a fixed income future!). It is our goal that the house will be 100% debt free and as self sustainable as reasonably possible. The property is pretty much all forest with a few snow mobile trails so we have a lot of work to do from putting in a road this summer, to putting in a well and septic next year, and finally beginning to build the house in the third year. Add into that the animals we plan on raising, the work to be done on the land with respect to permaculture and agroforestry, and well, we certainly have our hands full!
The ultimate goal, of course, is to live a simpler, happier, and healthier life in this hectic out of control, and very stress-filled world. On this site we share a little bit of anything and everything that we are personally doing toward creating our simpler life each and every day including all the little things here on our mini-suburban homestead on Long Island. What we share can range from small DIY projects and crafts, to recipes, crocheting, up through large projects such as cutting a road on our land! There is basically a little bit of everything because, well, life literally includes everything!
