Backyard Chickens

Backyard Chickens

Healthy hens, healthy eggs.
We are in no way experts on raising chickens. This has been an ongoing learning process from day one when we started building the coop until losing the second of my original three chickens just this past winter.  As devastating as losing her was, we added four more chicks to our flock and it is one of the most rewarding experiences!

We have learned a lot of what we know from friends and from the website backyardchickens.com  - they are an excellent resource!

A word of warning before you start:  check with your local laws and regulations to make sure you can have chickens legally.  The rules vary on number of chickens, roosters (if at all), distance coop must be from your neighbors, etc.
